What you predict in the WNBA game

Basketball puts big numbers on the board, so the WNBA game plays differently from the low-scoring sports: the total is a range of dozens of points, and pace matters as much as talent.

Projected total

150–205 points

The combined points the matchup was projected to produce. WNBA totals mostly close in the 160s and 170s, so the slider runs 150–205 in one-point steps, and landing within 4 points counts as nailed. With 40-minute games, pace is the first thing to read: two fast teams add possessions, and possessions add points.

Home win chance

0–100%

How likely the home team was to win. The WNBA's small league means the same teams meet often and the gap between the top and the bottom is real, so a strong home favorite can be a much bigger call than in baseball.

Point spread

0–100%

How likely the favorite was to win by more than the point spread. The spread is set to split the game, so this lands close to 50% more often than not — the skill is spotting the lean, like a favorite that runs its starters or one that tends to ease off with a big lead.

How a day plays out

1

Open the matchup

One real WNBA game from earlier in the season, the same one for every player, with both teams' records as they stood that day. The result stays hidden — the point is your read, not your homework.

2

Make three predictions

Three guesses per number. After each one you're told whether the answer is higher or lower, so a miss still tells you something and you can close in.

3

Get scored against the close

When you finish, each number is scored 0–100 on how close you landed to where the market closed before the game. Your day's score is the average of the three.

Why you're scored against the closing number

A basketball game has hundreds of possessions, but the last few minutes can still swing the final — intentional fouls, a cold shooting stretch, a team emptying its bench in a blowout. The final score overstates how sure anyone could have been.

The number the market settled on right before tip-off is the best public estimate of the matchup: rest, injuries and form are all in it. Scoring against it rewards a good read even when the fourth quarter went sideways.

The WNBA is also a great league to get good at. Fewer teams means you see the same matchups often, and reads on pace and rotation carry over from one game to the next.

WNBA prediction game FAQ

What is the daily WNBA prediction game?

It is a free once-a-day basketball game. You get one real WNBA matchup from earlier in the season, with the result hidden, and predict three numbers about it — the projected total points, the home team's chance to win, and the chance the favorite covers the point spread. Every player gets the same matchup, with three guesses per number and a higher-or-lower hint after each.

Is this sports betting?

No. There is no wagering, no deposit, and nothing to win but bragging rights. You are predicting numbers about a game that has already been played, to test how well you read it. You cannot win or lose money.

How many points should I guess for a WNBA total?

The slider runs 150 to 205 points in one-point steps. Most WNBA totals close in the 160s and 170s. Two up-tempo teams push it higher; two defensive, half-court teams pull it down.

What does 'covers the spread' mean in the WNBA game?

The point spread is the margin the favorite was expected to win by. Covering means winning by more than that. You predict how likely that was, as a percentage — and because the spread is set to make the game roughly even, the answer usually sits near 50%.

How is my WNBA score calculated?

Each of the three numbers is scored 0 to 100 on how close it lands to the closing number, and your day's score is the average of the three. Nailing a number on your first guess scores more than getting there on your third.

Do I need an account to play?

No. You can play as a guest straight away. Creating an account saves your history and streak across devices, and your guest progress carries over when you sign in.

Can I play yesterday's WNBA game?

Yes, if it's recent: today and the 2 days before it stay open to everyone. Daily Plus opens the full archive of past slates, lets you play every league on the same day instead of one, and includes a streak repair each week.
